Adventures around Little island Lighthouse
The new lighthouse owner and her guests are the only ones inhabiting
Little island – Litløy. But people have been living here since the Stone Age.
You can see their traces as well as remnants from other periods, when
going for a walk on the island.
The heart beat of the earth
If you feel like listening to the heart beat of mother earth, you may visit
the 40 meter deep cave, which is around 100.000 years old.
Midnight sun & northern lights
Summer time we enjoy the warmth and the light from the midnight sun. Autumn is
full of lovely berries to be picked and prepared. Wintertime we go for excursions to
admire the northern lights and when snow, we use snow shoes. In spring comes
the cod with new light and lots of delicious dinners.
Bird watching
The White Tailed Eagle is nesting on Little island – Litløy, and can often be seen
around the lighthouse during autumn and winter. The Shags are keeping us
company on the rocks around. The puffins we see regularly when at sea during
early summer months of May and June. Colonies of Gannets are nesting on a
neighbouring islet. Migrating birds are using Little island – Litløy as a transit and
around 60 different kinds of birds have been observed until now.
Climbing mountains
The neighbouring island, Gaukværøy, is a great place if you wish to climb
a mountain top and get a bird perspective on life. Together, the two islands
Litløy and Gaukværøy, were a cultural centre in the sea from around 1500.
Kayaking & diving
This is a great island kingdom to be paddling kayak. Plentiful as it is with
islets, rocks and a swarming bird life. In between we also see whales and seals.
